Member Code of Conduct

Purpose

Binar Futures Ltd. (Binar) is committed to good corporate and cultural governance. This Code of Conduct (Code) and the behaviours outlined in it are fundamental to Binar building positive relationships with program participants, employees, volunteers, community members, partner organisations and other stakeholders.

 

Scope

This Code applies to all Board members, members, committee members, employees, contractors ,volunteers and participants of Binar. This Code sets out the standards of behaviour which are expected from anyone who chooses to be involved with Binar in one or more of these roles.   For the avoidance of doubt, this Code of Conduct is intended to support (and not replace or vary) the conduct obligations of the Board members and members set out in Binar’s Constitution and at law. To the extent of any inconsistency, the obligations at law prevail over the Binar Constitution and the Binar Constitution prevails over this Code of Conduct.

 

Policy

This Code must be followed at all times when undertaking Binar activities, including during programs, meetings or events, whether these are hosted by Binar or another organisation.   This Code of Conduct can be amended by the Board at its discretion. Breaches of this Code will be investigated by the Board and major breaches may result in dismissal, or the end to your involvement with Binar.

The Board has chosen the following core values that we believe are important to the work Binar does:

Behaviours

The way we behave at Binar is built around our chosen values. Everyone who chooses to be involved with Binar is expected to demonstrate these behaviours.

 

Respect:

Our relationships are founded on respect, for others and for ourselves. By being respectful with one another, we have built a solid reputation for being trustworthy and culturally safe.

  • We listen to what other people have to say.

  • We respect other people’s opinions and views.

  • We are honest and clear about our intentions with others.

  • We recognise our own and other people’s boundaries and do not cross them.

Resilience:

Binar helps young people build resilience in all aspects of their life and power through adversity. We recognise we are stronger together.

  • We recognise and acknowledge our own and other people’s challenges.

  • We speak up when we need help and we encourage others to do the same.

  • We help and support one another to the best of our ability.

Culture:

We uphold the Aboriginal culture that values of community, family, and connection to country. Culture reinforces identity, builds pride and confidence. Representing Binar at sport carries the privilege and responsibility of honouring our own culture.

  • We actively bring Aboriginal young people into contact with their culture.

  • We celebrate and share all aspects of Aboriginal culture and encourage others to do the same.

  • We respect and learn from our Elders, past, present and emerging.

Connection:

Binar values Aboriginal people’s connection to family, community and country. Connection brings a sense of belonging that we extend to all Binar members regardless of their background.

  • We pursue relationships based on generosity, care and kindness.

  • We seek to build connections with other people, regardless of their background or circumstances.

  • We seek to build strong connections within our communities and with other communities.

  • We look for opportunities to connect and work with others.

Equity:

We believe everyone deserves equity of opportunity to become the best person they can be. We believe no one should be left behind and no one should be held back.

  • We strive to provide opportunities to young people that would otherwise be inaccessible to them.

  • We are fair and inclusive in the opportunities we provide to young people.

  • We seek to remove barriers to participation in sport, education and employment.

  • We promote reconciliation between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples.

Sporting Code of Conduct

Binar is not just a sporting club. We provide life opportunities and pathways through sport, education, employment, leadership and cultural programs. We are a community that supports one another and has key values of Respect, Resilience, Culture,  Connection and Equity. We wear our Binar uniform with pride and we honour the culture that our first players created of fairness, respect for ourselves and for each other. Size, gender, race, creed or age does not make us superior or inferior to others. We believe in treating others the way you want to be treated. We do not tolerate swearing, domineering, rude or bullying behaviour, but seek to encourage an environment of competing and learning in a safe and non-threatening way.


By being a representative of Binar, please also note the following expectations:

  • You give approval for your name to appear in print

  • You give approval for photos and other media to be taken of you as a player and family members for advertising purposes

 

Our Code (applicable to players, parents, coaches, referees, referee coaches and volunteers):

  • Don’t discriminate against, abuse, harass, ridicule or embarrass anyone

  • Don’t swear at another person

  • Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealings with others

  • Treat all persons with respect, dignity and proper regard for their rights, obligations and belongings

  • Act at all times in a fair and sporting manner to the complete satisfaction of Binar and its delegates so as not to bring yourself, Binar or the team into disrepute

  • Don’t approach an official prior to, during or after a game in an aggressive, threatening or aggressive manner

  • Don’t engage in any form of victimisation or sledging towards opposition players or coaching staff prior to, during or after a game

  • Play by the rules

  • Cooperate with your team mates and coaches

  • Control your temper. Verbal or physical abuse of officials, or coaches, players and supporters of opposing teams will not be tolerated

  • Avoid using derogatory, demanding or bullying language

  • Take responsibility for your actions

 

NOTE: The Code of Conduct covers all verbal and written communication as well as that placed on Social Media. If the player is under 18, please ensure you explain the Code of Conduct to them. Breaches of the Code will be taken seriously and may result in being suspensed or expelled from the club.
